Columbus, Ohio – Liz Tamburro has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in her career, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
A native of Phoenixville, Pa., Tamburro collected four saves in No. 25 Ohio State’s 2-0 win over No. 18 Rutgers on Sunday. The shutout for the senior goalie was the 10th of her career, moving her into a tie with Lindsay Williams (2002-05) for sixth most in program history.
On Friday against No. 16 Maryland, Tamburro matched her season high in saves turning away 10 of the Terrapins’ shots in a 3-1 loss.
Tamburro is having a career year as a senior, posting career bests in save percentage (.770), shutouts (four) and goals allowed per game (1.46). Her four shutouts are the third most in the Big Ten this season, while the .770 save percentage and 1.46 goals allowed per game rank fourth in the conference.
