COLUMBUS, Ohio — Nicolas Szerszen is headed to the professional ranks after signing a three-year contract with Asseco Resovia, an elite volleyball club based in Rzeszow, Poland. He walked across the graduation stage with his mechanical engineering degree in-hand earlier this month and leaves Ohio State as the most decorated men’s volleyball player in program history.
Nicolas is following in the footsteps of his father, Jacek Szerszen, who also played for Asseco Resovia and was a member of the 1988 Polish Championship squad. Asseco Resovia has performed well recently in the CEV Champions League (Europe’s top competition), placing second and third in 2015 and 2016, respectively. The club also competes in Poland’s highest level pro league, PlusLiga.
Fellow MIVA star Thomas Jaeschke (Loyola Chicago) played for Asseco Resovia from 2015-17, signing with the club after his junior season. He parlayed that opportunity into a spot on Team USA for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, helping the Stars & Stripes bring home a bronze medal.
