COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State synchronized swimming team (7-0) earned first-place honors in the OSU College Association Meet held Saturday at Larkins Hall in Columbus, Ohio. The Buckeyes recorded 101 points, ahead of Alabama-Birmingham (88), William & Mary (70), Ohio (49) and Iowa (17.5).

Ohio State freshmen Kate Hooven (Pleasanton, Calif.) and Becky Kim (Walnut Creek, Calif.) won the duet competition for the Buckeyes with a mark of 93.475. Teammates Carly Grimshaw (So., Markham, Ontario) and Chelsea Luker (So., Montreal, Quebec) finished in second, recording a score of 92.875. Hooven, Kim and junior Lindsay Newbill (Laguana Hills, Calif.) earned a first-place finish in the trio event with a winning score of 92.625. Heather Burdick (Jr., Walnut Creek, Calif.), Katrin Eggenberger (Fr., Buchs SG, Switzerland) and Ashley Rule (Fr., San Jose, Calif.) placed second with a score of 90.625.

The Buckeyes also took the top honor in the team event. The Ohio State ‘A’ team of Ellen Hacker (Fr., Newark, Ohio), Grimshaw, Newbill, Hooven, Kim, Luker, Lauren Marsh (Jr., Spring Valley, Calif.) and Chisako Ukai (Jr., Nagoya City, Japan) won with a score of 94.625.

Ohio State returns to action next weekend when the Buckeyes travel to Virginia. The squad will battle Richmond Feb. 14 and take on William & Mary Feb. 15.
