COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State synchronized swimming team will host the 2009 North Regional Championships at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The Buckeyes will welcome Michigan, Minnesota, Colorado State, Lindenwood, Miami and Carleton, as they seek their 19th regional title.
Last Time Out Scarlet at Miami
The Scarlet squad earned a mark of 94.083, to help propel the Buckeyes to a first-place finish over Miami Feb. 28. Ohio State garnered 102 points over Miami’s 47.5. Barbara Nesbitt captured her fourth first-place finish in the solo event this season with a score of 92.667.
Becky Kim and Meghan Kinney placed first in duet with a score of 92.500. Michelle Theriault and Jayme DeLancy finished second, recording a mark of 86.667. In the trio competition, Kinney, Caitlin Stewart and Carmen Moraes garnered a 90.833, which lifted them into first place. Theriault, Nesbitt and Deborah Shim were a close second with a score of 89.000.
Last Time Out Gray at Keuka Invitational
Ohio State captured first place with 98 points at the Keuka Invitational Feb. 28. Keuka came in second with 90 points and Penn State finished third with 70.5 points. The Gray squad won the team routine with a score of 91.167. Torey Stachowicz, Asia Luke, Liana Litsky and Diana Care also performed in the team routine. The quad placed third with a mark of 84.333.
Katherine Green competed in the solo competition and garnered first place with a mark of 86.667.
Hannah Shively and Lauren Robinson took first in the duet, tallying a score of 86.500. In the trio event, Jackie Mundy, Liz Derr and Monica Finnigan placed first with a mark of 83.333.
So far in 2009, the Scarlet team has the highest mark of any Buckeye team routine this season with a score of 96.167 at Richmond. Barbara Nesbitt has the top mark among the Ohio State soloists with a 93.167. In the duet competitions, the Scarlet and Gray is led by Meghan Kinney and Becky Kim, who posted a 93.833. Kinney, Carmen Moraes and Caitlin Stewart lead the Scarlet and Gray in trio with a score of 94.000. All high marks in the small routines were earned at William & Mary Feb 15.
2008 North Regional Championships
Ohio State captured its 18th North Regional championship last season, scoring 100 points and out distancing its nearest opponent by 27 points. The Buckeyes swept all four routines. The Scarlet team topped the competition with a mark of 97.667 in the team event. The Gray squad took second with a 95.000. Both routines scored were a 2008 season best.
William & Mary
The Buckeyes earned another first place team finish at William & Mary Feb. 15. Ohio State tallied 102 points to outscore Lindenwood (88) and William & Mary (74). The Scarlet team placed first with a score of 95.333. Junior soloist Barbara Nesbitt captured first-place with a mark of 93.167. The tally is her highest mark of the season.
In duet, Meghan Kinney and Becky Kim placed first with a mark of 93.833. Jayme DeLancy and Deborah Shim were second with a score of 89.167. Nesbitt, Shim and Michelle Theriault finished second (91.500) in the trio competition, behind teammates Carmen Moraes, Caitlin Stewart and Kinney who took first place with a score of 94.000.
Ohio State placed first with 90 points at Richmond Feb. 14. Lindenwood, who earned 72 points, came in second and Richmond finished third with 60 points. The Scarlet squad earned its second first-place finish of the season with a score of 96.167. Barbara Nesbitt was first in the solo competition with a mark of 92.000.
Becky Kim and Meghan Kinney scored a 92.333 to finish first in the duet competition, followed by teammates Jayme DeLancy and Deborah Shim, who tallied a mark of 90.167 for second place. In trio, Nesbitt, Shim and Michelle Theriault recorded a 90.833 to finish second behind teammates Caitlin Stewart, Carmen Moraes and Kinney, who were first with a score of 93.500.
The Buckeyes will travel to San Antonio, Texas, to compete in the 2009 U.S. Collegiate National Championships March 26-28.
