Summer Internships: Cullen Sowder

Share

Ohio State Scholar-Athlete Cullen Sowder is taking time prior to his senior year to intern with Huntington Bank in Columbus. The finance major, who is from Savage, Minn. and has been a scholar-athlete in each of his three years on campus, says he was eager to take advantage of this opportunity “not only because of the continuous success Huntington is having, but also the brand it represents.”

Sowder is working in the insurance department at Huntington’s downtown Columbus location. His day to day tasks involve forecasting, analysis, pro forma, and strategic planning. “The projects I have worked on truly had an impact on the company and were used to make financial decisions within our segment and helped plan for the future,” Sowder said. “I am able to take these skills to wherever I want to pursue my career in the future, as they can apply to all aspects of business.”

“This opportunity to work with Huntington has been nothing but positive in strengthening my future career goals. I am able to see different aspects of finance in order to figure out what areas I want to pursue, and others than I don’t care for. Huntington encourage its employees, especially interns, to explore other areas of interest within the company to find what you are truly passionate for. That is something that I will fully take advantage of with my time here.” | Cullen Sowder

THE COLUMBUS ADVANTAGE

More than 300 corporate managing offices call the Columbus area home, including 15 Fortune 1000 companies that have their headquarters in the capital region of Ohio. Included in that list are:

  • Abercrombie & Fitch
  • Bath & Body Works

  • Huntington Bank
  • Nationwide Insurance
  • JP Morgan Chase
  • Wendy’s
  • Bob Evans Farms Inc.

“Huntington takes pride in its presence in the community and the strong culture within, leading large charity events like Pelotonia and embodying their three newly reformed values of ‘Can-Do Attitude, Service Heart, and Forward Thinking’ in maintaining their presence as a Category of One company. After experiencing my first day of work, I was able to see first-hand the culture and values they preach every day, throughout all segments of Huntington.” | Cullen Sowder
