Brian Lang, who will be a senior in 2018-19 and is majoring in finance, is using his final summer before graduation working in the financial capital of the world: New York City. He will cover everything from clients assets, investments, technology, and the stock market at Oppenheimer & Co Inc.
“I wanted to be able to explore options, and say to myself after the summer ‘I can see myself doing this’, or ‘I definitely don’t want to be doing this.’ Getting the opportunity to work under the executive director of investments was something I simply could not pass up.”
Lang is from Hicksville, N.Y., which is approximately an hour and a half from New York City. Every morning, he makes the commute into the city the same way millions of people do: via public transportation.
“Commuting to New York City is definitely different. Having this opportunity can show me what it’s like to leave real early, and get home late. I can definitely see myself doing something within this field, whether it’s advising clients’ financials, being an analyst, or dealing with investments.”
In the end, Lang’s internship is all about is preparation. “Finance is such a big major, with endless amounts of possible career paths,” he said. “There are so many things you can do with it.”
