No. 8 Taylor Sherwin, Senior Setter
Major: Speech & Hearing Science
Taylor Sherwin currently ranks in the top-10 all-time at Ohio State in career assists and will soon be cracking the top-5. Her 1,268 helpers last season are the 16th-most for a season in school history. Earlier in 2014, Sherwin was voted as the Most Outstanding Player of the Miami Invitational as the Buckeyes swept through the competition in Oxford. Following Ohio State’s road wins at Iowa and #8 Nebraska, she brought in more accolades as the Big Ten Setter of the Week for the third time in her career.
Student Life Do you prefer Oval Beach in the Fall or Spring (or maybe the Winter)? – Fall! I love the cool weather and leaves changing.
Where is the best place to sit for lectures? – Within the first few rows. I feel like the first row you are too close, and if you sit in the way back you do not learn anything.
Most underrated place to study on campus – Brueggers.
Why did you choose to major in Speech and Hearing Science? I wanted to be in a field where there were a variety of options and different ways to use the major. I really want to work with children and helping them in some way, and this major gave me that option, too.
Describe your first day as a student at The Ohio State University? – I came in the summer time which gave me a better understanding of the campus so that part was not so overwhelming for me. What was overwhelming was the amount of people on campus once school started and all the crazy bike riders on campus that run into you.
Who do you wish had a Twitter account? Why would you want to “follow” this account? – I don’t really know because I don’t use my twitter account enough to “follow” whoever.
Favorite TV show – Real Housewives of New Jersey or Sons of Anarchy.
Favorite movie – The School of Rock.
Favorite book and/or magazine – The Five People You Meet in Heaven.
Favorite celebrity – Rachael McAdam.
Favorite singer or musical group – Sam Smith or Zac Brown Band.
Last concert I attended was – Spring oval concert.
Favorite pro sports team – Red Wings.
Favorite athlete – Chelsea Noble.
The athlete I would most like to compete against – Geoff Carlston.
Favorite athletic memory – Beating Nebraska again this year in Lincoln.
Team you’re most looking forward to competing against – Michigan, always a crazy atmosphere to play in.
Pre-game/match superstition/Pre-game/match ritual – I always ask for a piece of gum from my teammate, Alyssa, during pre-game and then right before the match I say a small pray.
What is your top skill? What skill do you need to improve? – My best skill I guess would be setting, since I am a setter. And I would say I’d love to be a better blocker.
Most interesting place I’ve visited – Italy.
Place I would like to visit – Greece.
Favorite home cooked meal – Homemade tacos from Mama Sher!
Favorite snack food – Any kind of chips and dip.
Person I most admire – My parents.
In 10 years, I would like to be – Living a very blessed life that God has allowed for me.
If I had a million dollars, I would – Give back to the community and to my parents.
Coolest thing you did this past summer – Zip lining with my team.
Most prized possession – Family.
Best piece of advice you’ve received – “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.”
If you could have dinner with any 3 people (alive or dead), who would they be and what/where would you eat – 1. Marilyn Monroe 2. Mother Theresa 3.Heath Ledger, and we would go get sushi.
Dream event (non-sport or sport-related) you would like to attend – Any big fashion week or playing in the national championship.
Who tweets too much on your team – Katie Mitchell.
Do you have an interesting nickname? – TaySher or Scoobers (I don’t know how my mom came up with that but it stuck.)
What is your hometown known for? – Mickey mouse and tourists.
