Freshman Nick Elswick has enjoyed a breakout freshman season for the Ohio State men’s cross country team, leading the squad at three of four 8k races this year. The Chardon, Ohio, native ran a top time of 24:30.70 in September at the Kentucky Bluegrass Invitational and is primed to run well at the 2014 Big Ten Cross Country Championships in Iowa City, Iowa, on Sunday, Nov. 2.
Do you prefer Oval Beach in the Fall or Spring (or maybe the Winter)? I’ve only ever seen the Oval in the fall, so I guess I have to go with that!
Where is the best place to sit for lectures? Definitely the edges, they make for a clean getaway.
Most underrated place to study on campus – I usually go to Younkin or Thompson Library. I haven’t really explored anywhere else yet.
Why did you choose your major? I’ve always been interested in learning how the human body works and performs. I think it’s a really cool subject area. As an athlete, I’ve had my share of bumps and bruises and I’d like to be able to help other people.
If you were the University President for a day, what would you do? I would probably institute a mandatory nap time in everyone’s day.

Pre-game/match superstition/Pre-game/match ritual – I always wear the same pair of socks for each race (washed of course).
What is your top skill? What skill do you need to improve? My top skill would have to be that I’m very motivated. If I set my mind to something, I’m going to do it. The skill I need to improve would be my attention to details. I usually rush through things too fast and make little mistakes along the way.

Place I would like to visit – Maine. I’ve never been on that part of the East Coast.

In 10 years, I would like to be – Done with school!
If I had a million dollars, I would – Buy a house and car, and then save the rest for my future kids to go to college. I wouldn’t tell them I had the money saved just to mess with them. It would be a nice surprise.

Most prized possession – The hat I got from the Foot Locker championship in 2012.
I would like to trade places for a day with – A pet dog, because they have it made. You get free food, free belly rubs, and all you have to do is pant and wag your tail.
Best piece of advice you’ve received – The only way you’re going to be good at something is if you enjoy every moment of it. If not, then why do it?
If you could have dinner with any 3 people (alive or dead), who would they be and what/where would you eat – I would invite C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Christopher Paolini, the authors of my favorite books, and we would eat at Olive Garden for the never-ending pasta.
