Men’s Track and Field – Sprints/Hurdles
Jordan Rispress is a senior sprinter/hurdler on the Ohio State men’s track and field team. After an impressive indoor campaign, Rispress was named a 2014 Second Team All-American, First Team All-Big Ten selection and was a Big Ten champion as part of the Buckeye 4×400-meter relay team. Rispress recently ran a personal-best time of 51.51 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles to claim first place at the 2014 Jesse Owens Track Classic. The Columbus native is pursuing a degree in sociology.
Do you prefer the Oval in the fall or spring (or maybe the Winter)? – I prefer the Oval in the early fall and in the late spring. I really just hate cold weather in general.
Where is the best place to sit for lectures? – The best place to sit for lectures is the front of the classroom, somewhere in the middle. I can’t really see that well, so if I’m too far back I won’t learn anything.
Most underrated place to study on campus? – Townshend Hall; there is free printing and it’s located near all of my classes.
Why did you choose to major in sociology? – I chose to major in sociology because I’m really interested in learning about people and what makes them act the way they do.
If you were the University President for a day, what would you do? – Cancel classes, homework and tests for the day and throw a giant BBQ party.
Who do you wish had a Twitter account? Why would you want to “follow” this account? – Richard Pryor. I feel like he would have been hilarious.
Favorite TV Show – Hands down The Walking Dead Rick Grimes for president!
Favorite Movie – It’s a tie between the Avengers and Rise of The Planet of the Apes.
Favorite book and/or magazine – James Patterson and the Alex Cross series
Favorite singer or musical group – Probably my boy Justin Timberlake
Last concert I attended – Juicy J and Childish Gambino a few weeks ago
Favorite Pro Sports Team – The Chicago Bulls
Favorite Athlete – Johnny Manziel
The athlete I would most like to compete against – Kevin Young (400m Hurdles). Even though he ran about 5 seconds faster than me, it would still be a great experience to run with a world record holder.
Favorite athletic memory – Running at Penn Relays and winning the 400m hurdles my senior year of high school
Team you’re most looking forward to competing against – The meet I am looking forward to the most is the Big Ten Conference meet. There will be some great competition there and I’m excited to see how well we match up with everyone else.
What is your top skill? What skill do you need to improve? – I believe my best skill is hurdling. I need to improve my 400m open time though if I want to become a better 400m hurdler.
Most interesting place I’ve visited – Miami, Florida, was amazing. I’m really looking forward to going back someday soon.
Place I would like to visit – I would love to visit Tokyo someday.
Favorite home cooked meal – Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese and green beans
Favorite snack food – Strawberry yogurt
Person I most admire – I admire my mother and father. They’re really strong people with high morals and work ethic. Even though I get in trouble sometimes, they support me in everything I do no matter what. When I grow up I hope to be just like them!
In 10 years, I would like to be – If not running professionally, I would like to be working my way towards becoming the head coach of a Division I track and field program.
If I had a million dollars, I would – Pay off all the loans and bills I have, buy myself and my parents new cars, put up enough money to put both of my sisters through college, and invest in a taco stand with my teammate Nick Batcha.
I would like to trade places for a day with – President Barack Obama
Best piece of advice you’ve received – Don’t stress the little things. Worrying about things you can’t change is a waste of time and energy.
Dream event (non-sport or sport-related) you would like to attend – The Summer Olympics
If your parents/guardians bragged about you, what would they say? – I’m a humble guy and I work hard
Pop or Soda? – Soda
Cats or Dogs? – Dogs
Early Bird or Night Owl? – Night owl for sure. It takes me a good 30-45 minutes to get out of bed every morning.
Would you be the O, H, I or the O? – The first “O” I guess.
