Joe Meurer, a native of Towson, Md., is a captain for the Ohio State men’s lacrosse team this year. A finance major who is a four-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and an Academic All-Big Ten honoree, he is a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award. Meurer has played in 54 games as a Buckeye and has 96 groundballs and 39 caused turnovers.

Student Life
Do you prefer Oval Beach in the Fall or Spring (or maybe the Winter)? – Spring, there are always good vibes when you see the Oval crowded with people in tank tops and shorts.
Where is the best place to sit for lectures? – Front and center. That’s when you feel most engaged.
Most underrated place to study on campus – Physics Research Building. It’s right near the business school too so it’s convenient.
Why did you choose to major in finance? – I chose to major in finance because I wanted to be educated on investment decisions that I will be making in the future.
If you were the University President for a day, what would you do? – I would hold a soup kitchen in the middle of the Oval for homeless people on High Street.
Describe your first day as a student at The Ohio State University? – It was pretty scary. I had no clue where any buildings were. You could tell I was a freshman.

Pre-game/match superstition/Pre-game/match ritual – I don’t really have one, I just listen to my Ipod and try to stay loose
What is your top skill? What skill do you need to improve? – My stickwork is probably my best skill and I’m always trying to improve on-ball defense

Person I most admire – My parents are my biggest inspiration.
The greatest risk I’ve ever taken was – I used to ride my bike down this really steep hill. In hindsight it was an awful idea.
In 10 years, I would like to – Have a family and just be living happily
If I had a million dollars, I would – Save and invest some, donate some to charity, and put a large down payment on a house
Most prized possession – My football card collection from when I was younger
I would like to trade places for a day with – Jesus Christ
Best piece of advice you’ve received – Do what you love, love what you do
If you could have dinner with any 3 people (alive or dead), who would they be and what/where would you eat – Aristotle, Warren Buffett, and John Wooden and we’d eat at Chipotle
Dream event (non-sport or sport-related) you would like to attend – The World Cup for soccer
If your parents/guardians bragged about you, what would they say? – They would say I’m unselfish and always looking out for the best interests of others
Who tweets too much on your team – Nick Diegel, I think my teammates would agree with that
