Major: English

As a senior member on the Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team, Ashley Vance competes primarily in breaststroke and individual medley events for the Buckeyes. With three appearances at the Big Ten championships thus far in her career, Vance most recently took home a conference title in the 200 individual medley. The Kindwood, Texas, native, along with her Buckeye teammates, will return to McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on Friday, Oct. 17 for the Scarlet vs. Gray Exhibition.

Student Life
Do you prefer Oval Beach in the Fall or Spring (or maybe the Winter)? – Fall! I love when the leaves start changing
Where is the best place to sit for lectures? – Probably four or five rows back, and off to one side
Most underrated place to study on campus – Mason Hall
Why did you choose to major in English? – I’m a super avid reader and I love writing
If you were the University President for a day, what would you do? – Cancel classes and swim practice
Describe your first day as a student at The Ohio State University? – I was a mess! I’m horrible with directions and I remember I got lost more than once.

Favorite athletic memory – Beating Michigan at our home duel meet last year, although beating them at Big Tens was pretty great, too.
Team you’re most looking forward to competing against – Minnesota and Indiana
Pre-game/match superstition/Pre-game/match ritual – I always have certain stretches that I do behind the blocks. I also crack my knuckles and adjust my cap and goggles obsessively!
What is your top skill? What skill do you need to improve? – I suppose my dives and underwaters. I need work on my closing speed in races, because I tend to race like a sprinter for mid-distance events. I go out fast and die hard!
