BALTIMORE, Md. — Sophomores Will Grimmer and Caleb Ramirez each garnered red numbers on Day One of the 2017 Big Ten Championships, shooting 1-under 69’s to earn shares of fourth place individually on the 70-player leaderboard. Ohio State is slotted second overall in the team standings at 3-over (283).
Starting the day on Hole 10, Grimmer dropped in four birdies before `the turn’ and sat two shots under par heading to the Hole 1 tee box. He then surrounded a lone bogey with eight pars in the second half to complete the day at 1-under. Ramirez took the opposite route to 69, going 1-over through the first nine holes before burying three straight birdies on Holes 4-6 to dig back to 1-under.
Daniel Wetterich and Clark Engle contributed to the impressive team tally as well. Wetterich made his way through a steady round, suffering only three bogies off-set by a Hole 6 birdie to come in at 2-over (72). He is tied for 23rd individually. Engle was right behind at 3-over (73) and owns a piece of 28th place.
Round Two pairs Ohio State with event-dominating Illinois (-11) and Purdue (+4) for tee times ranging from 9:45-10:21 a.m. off the first tee.
