COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s hockey senior goaltender Lisa Steffes has been named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
It marks the second time this season Steffes has garnered this award. It is the fifth career WCHA weekly award for the Amherstburg, Ontario, native. She was twice named WCHA Rookie of the Week during the 2010-11 season and now has been WCHA Defensive Player of the Week three times including Nov. 2, 2011 and Oct. 23, 2013.
This past weekend in Durham, N. H., Steffes helped lead the Buckeyes to their first two-game sweep of an opponent this season. She picked up 23 saves in a 3-2 victory over New Hampshire Saturday and followed it up with a 21-save shutout in a 2-0 win over the Wildcats Sunday. It was the first shutout by an OSU goaltender this season.
Steffes, who has started eight games this season, is currently posting career bests in both goals-against average (1.61) and save percentage (.942).
Ohio State hosts top-ranked Minnesota this weekend at the OSU Ice Rink. Game times are set for 6:07 p.m. ET Saturday and 12:07 p.m. Sunday.
