COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team defeated the Cleveland State Vikings, 10-1, tonight at the Krenzler Field in Cleveland, Ohio. Freshman Kristine Himes notched two home runs, while Stacy Roth also blasted her sixth home run of the season for the 10-1 victory. The Buckeyes are now 20-18 overall, while the Vikings fall to 15-27 for the season.
Heading into the top of the fifth inning the score was tied 1-1, until Roth homered to leftfield to take a 2-1 lead. The Vikings were unable to rally back as the Buckeyes notched eight more runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
With one out in the top of the sixth, Himes blasted her first home run of the game to centerfield to bring Rogeanna Hottinger home. She would follow in the seventh inning with another blast to centerfield to score Hottinger and Holly English.
Jenn Elwell pitched six innings to record her second win of the season. She fanned three and gave up only one run and no walks. CSU’s Kimberly Evans recorded the loss after giving up five runs and walking two.
Ohio State will next take on Minnesota on Friday in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. The Buckeyes will then meet Wisconsin in a two-game series on Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.).
