Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team (12-10 overall, 1-7 in the Big Ten) erupted for nine runs off 10 hits to defeat the Bowling Green Falcons, 9-1 in five innings.
BGSU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning but the Buckeyes immediately tied the game in the bottom half. With two outs, Stacy Roth (Fr., Wauseon, Ohio) doubled to centerfield. Jaime Chenevey (Sr., Wooster, Ohio) advanced her to third on a single and a throwing error by Bowling Green second baseman Angie Domschot allowed Roth to score.
The roof caved in for the Falcons in the second inning. OSU drove in six runs off four hits. Holly English (So., Akron, Ohio) and Chenevey drove in runs off singles. Roth drove in a pair of runs off a single as well.
OSU added its final two runs of the game the fourth inning. Roth scored off a single by Chenevey, who finished the game going 3-for-3 with two runs batted in. Chenevey followed the path to homeplate one batter later with Samantha Kimura’s (Fr., Placentia, Calif.) RBI single to centerfield.
Inside the circle, Kimura (3-1) won her second consecutive game for OSU. She pitched four innings and gave up just four hits. BGSUs Garrett Gholston (4-9) was charged with the loss.
The Buckeye offense has now scored 17 runs in their last 11 innings.
OSU will hit the field tomorrow when they play host to Purdue in a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
