COLUMBUS, Ohio– After winning their respective matches Monday, Connor Smith and Nelson Vick, members of the Ohio State men’s tennis team, picked up right where they left off Tuesday, advancing to the final singles qualifying round of the 2011 D’Novo/ITA All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.

Smith came from behind for the second consecutive day to down Oliver Borsos of LSU 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. The Buckeye junior will face another SEC opponent when he takes the court against Auburn’s Andreas Miles at 10:30 a.m. CT Wednesday.

Vick also had to come from behind to advance. In a hard fought contest, the Grafton, Wis., native beat Duke’s Jason Tahir 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7). The redshirt-sophomore will attempt to enter the singles main draw Wednesday with a match vs. Maros Horny of Maryland at 10 a.m. CT. But it will be no easy task for Vick, as Horny is the second highest ranked player in the qualifier.

Devin McCarthy and Ille Van Engelen advanced in the doubles qualifying bracket as the Buckeye tandem defeated Cale Hamond and Tahir of Duke 8-6. McCarthy and Van Engelen will face Oklahoma State’s Maniel Bains and Eric West at 2:30 p.m. CT Wednesday with the hope of advancing to the doubles portion of the main draw.

The other Buckeye duo participating in the doubles qualifying rounds, Hunter Callahan and Vick, fell to David Cavalcantl and Matheus Pereira of Wichita State, 8-6.

Wednesday will serve as the final day of qualifying in the All-American Championships. The main draw for both singles and doubles will begin Thursday.
