PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Tatum Skaggs notched her first collegiate hat trick as the No. 5 Ohio State University women’s ice hockey team scored a season high seven goals in a 7-3 win against the No. 9 Robert Morris University Colonials on Friday night at the RMU Island Sports Center.

The Buckeyes (11-2-2, 8-2-2 WCHA) took an early lead when Liz Schepers netted her second goal of the season to put OSU in front, 1-0, at the 3:36 point of the first period. Grace Zarzecki extended the Ohio State lead with her second goal in as many games, making it 2-0 Ohio State. Just over a minute later, Dani Sadek scored her second goal of the season, making it 3-0 Buckeyes with just over 10 minutes to play in the period. Finally, Skaggs scored her first goal of the game on a power play with 14 seconds left in the first to send OSU into the intermission with a 4-0 lead.

RMU attempted a rally in the second when Aneta Ledlova scored to make it 4-1 OSU with 14:34 left in the period. The Buckeyes responded with another Skaggs power-play-goal, putting Ohio State in front 5-1 before the second intermission.

In the third, Skaggs finished the hat trick, scoring a goal 3:51 into the third period. RMU fired back with a goal from Anjelica Diffendal to make it 6-2, but a Charly Dahlquist PPG late in the third made it 7-2. Brittany Howard scored for the Colonials with less than three minutes to play, but it was not enough as the Buckeyes cruised to a 7-3 victory.

Skaggs finished with a game high three points. Lauren Boyle, Emma Maltais, Sadek, Schepers and Dunne all finished with two points each. Kassidy Sauvé made 30 saves in the OSU net.

The Buckeyes return to the ice to wrap up their series with the Colonials on Saturday. Puck drop is set for 2:05 p.m. ET.
