COLUMBUS, Ohio-Four current and two former members of the Ohio State men’s swimming team are competing at the Olympics Trials being held in Indianapolis, Ind., Aug. 8-16.
Former team member Cameron Mull (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Everett), who graduated in June, set a new OSU record after finishing 14th in the 400-meter freestyle preliminary race with a time of 3:56.32. The top-eight swimmers in the preliminary race move on the final competition. Mull will swim in the 200 freestyle today and the 200 butterfly on Friday.
Joining Mull at the Olympic Trials is former member Jason Fox (Goshen, Ind./Goshen), who also just graduated, and current team members Brian Malich (Sr., Mason, Ohio/El Dorado (Calif.)), juniors Travis Carver (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley) and Dan Vitina (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Brandon Deters (So., Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven).
Representing the Buckeyes from other countries at the Sydney Games are Nick Rees (So., Nassau, Bahamas/St. Augustin) and former member Marko Strahija (Zagreb, Croatia), who each qualified earlier in the summer. Rees will swim the 100 butterfly while Strahija, a ’96 Olympian, will swim in the 100 and 200 backstroke.
