OMAHA, Neb. – The Ohio State men’s hockey team dropped a 4-3 decision to Nebraska-Omaha on the road Saturday in Qwest Center Omaha. Buckeye goalie Dustin Carlson had 36 saves in the game, with junior defenseman Shane Sims posting a career-high two goals.

The Mavericks rallied for the win, scoring twice in the third period to tie the game and take the lead. Ohio State led 2-1 after the end of the first on goals from C.J. Severyn (just 16 seconds into the game) and Sims. Sims added his second power-play tally of the night at 5:18 to give Ohio State a 3-1 lead. The Mavericks drew within one with a goal at 13:01 of the second and tied the game at 3-all just 56 seconds in the third period. Jeric Agosta had the gamewinner at the 8:38 mark of the third.

The Buckeyes scored in the first minute of the game for the second night in a row. Just 15 seconds into the contest, C.J. Severyn scored top glove from the slot, assisted by John Albert and Hunter Bishop. At 7:44 the Buckeyes went up 2-0 when Sims’ shot from the point got through traffic and in high. Sergio Somma and Peter Boyd set up the goal, which came on the Buckeyes’ first power play of the night. At 12:15 the Mavericks got on the board when Eddie DelGrosso tallied on a 5-on-3 power play. Shots were 12-9 in favor of UNO in the period.

In the second Ohio State went up 3-1 when Sims scored from the point again. Chris Reed and Taylor Stefishen had the assists on the power play goal that came at 5:18. At 13:01 UNO scored a 5-on-3 goal of its own, as Terry Broadhurst tallied, drawing the Mavericks within one (3-2). UNO put 17 shots on net in the period, with Buckeye goalie Dustin Carlson making 16 stops.

UNO tied the game just 56 seconds into the third period when Alex Hudson scored and went ahead for the first time on Jeric Agosta’s redirection of a Broadhurst pass at 8:38.

Ohio State was outshot in the game, 39-25. Carlson played 59:39 and had 35 saves. John Faulkner made 22 stops in all 60 minutes.

Each team had two power-play goals. OSU was 2-for-5 and UNO was 2-for-7.

Postgame Notes
Ohio State returns home for a two-game series with Alaska in Value City Arena. The teams will meet at 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with the Friday matchup televised live on the Big Ten Network.

The Buckeyes’ 5-on-3 goal was their fourth of the season and first since Oct. 30 at Notre Dame.

Somma is on a seven -game scoring streak with four goals, six assists and 10 points. He is second on the team with 10 goals this year and is third with 23 points.

Boyd is on a seven-game scoring streak with a 1-10-11 line during the stretch. He leads the squad with 21 assists and is second with 27 points.
 
Ohio State has a power-play goal in nine-consecutive games (16-50/.320).

Bishop (1-3-4) and Albert (0-4-4) are on four-game scoring streaks.
