T&F: Sheffield Breaks 23 Year-Old School Record at Buckeye Tune Up
Sheffield’s 60m dash time surpasses Jonathan Burrell’s 1995 record.
Columbus, Ohio – Kendall Sheffield’s second meet as a Buckeye brought about huge success for the dual sport athlete as the Buckeyes conclude their regular indoor season. The sophomore created a new glass ceiling for future Buckeyes as he broke the 23 year-old 60m dash record that was previously held by Jonathan Burrell (6.65). Sheffield not only broke the school record, but also the French Field House record with a time of 6.63. This stunning time now ranks No.1 in the Big Ten and 14th in the NCAA.
Chantel Ray struck gold with her 8.30 time in the women’s 60m hurdles. The senior’s finish time was .33 seconds faster than her competitors.
Along with Sheffield, fellow Buckeyes Nick Gray and Eric Harrison Jr. had success in the 60m dash placing second and third. Gray clocked a time of 6.71, while Harrison Jr. registered a time of 6.80. Bliss Soleyn also had a successful showing in the women’s 60m dash. Soleyn was able to attain a time of 7.59 to catch second place.
The Buckeyes distance team had a collection of major contributions at the Buckeye Tune Up. Annie Ubbing snagged first place in the women’s 600m run. Ubbing clocked a time of 1:31.9. Alex Lomong came in first for the men with a time of 1:55.02 (800m run). Aziza Ayoub (2:09.92 – 800m run) and Julia Rizk (2:12.81 – 800m run) rang in second and third.
Sade Olatoye and Aaron Zedella continued their campaign of top marks in the weight throw. Olatoye and Zedella’s tosses got them first and second place. Proceeding with throws, both men and women’s shot put squads showed off their elite abilities at the meet. The Buckeyes had five throwers from both teams finish in the top three spots (Nicholas Demaline, Max Seipel, Aaron Zedella, Lyne’a Diller and Olatoye).

Tyrese Fajardo (1:21.62 – 600m run), Paul Bete (4:14.22 – mile), DaJuan Seward (7.86 – 60m hurdles), Anavia Battle (7.43 – 60m dash), Andre Jeff (21.73 – 200m dash), Vanessa Robinson (2:12.77 – 800m run), Jacob Arter (2.01m – high jump), Alexus Pyles (5.54m – long jump) and Davion Fisher (7.25m – long jump) all registered personal best times in various events at the Buckeye Tune Up.
The Buckeyes prepare to head to Geneva, Ohio to battle it out at the Big Ten Championships next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 23-24).
