COLUMBUS, Ohio – Eight Ohio State fencers competed in Milwaukee, Wis. at the Division I NAC tournament Dec. 7-10. Of the eight Buckeyes who competed, six earned a spot in the Top 25 while two finished Top 10.

Junior Zain Shaito, the only Buckeye competing in foil for the men’s unit, earned a bronze medal by tying for third place on the first day of competition. Shaito finished Round 1 by beating his opponent 15-3. His win in Round 2 was by a similar margin of 15-5. His final bout ended in a close victory of 15-12 to secure third place in his weapon category.

Overall on Saturday, five swashbucklers competed in men’s epee and women’s saber. Senior Narayan Pathi led the men’s unit by posting a 7th place finish. Classmate Daniel Tafoya also earned a spot in the Top 25 by finishing 14th. For the women’s group, sophomore Celina Merza and senior Alison Miller came in 14th and 15th place respectively, earning the Buckeyes two more Top 25 honors.

While no Buckeye fencers competed on Sunday, Nina Stackhouse secured an 18th place finish in women’s foil on Monday, the last day of competition. 

This tournament marked the last competition of 2012 for the Ohio State fencing team. They return to the strips on Jan. 12 at home in Columbus, Ohio for the OSU Open.
