DES MOINES, Iowa – The Ohio State women’s track and field team saw several athletes compete at the 102nd Drake Relays on Friday. Three sprinters will run again Saturday in final competitions as well as the 4x100m relay team.
All-Americans Christina Manning (13.29) and Letecia Wright (13.34) bested the competition in the 100m hurdles where they placed first and second, respectively, to make their way into Saturday’s finals.
Madison McNary and Manning ran well in the 100m dash where they both qualified for the finals, crossing the line for sixth (12.04) and seventh (12.10), respectively. Louisiana Tech’s Chelsea Hayes used a mark of 11.68 for the win.
Ashley Galbraith and Norianna Brown led the Scarlet and Gray in field events. Galbraith took sixth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.75m (5-08.75). Maya Pressley from Auburn (1.81m/5-11.25) won the high jump. In the shot put, Brown took first in her heat and eighth overall with her final throw, going 15.12m (49-7.25). Tia Brooks of Oklahoma took first with a mark of 17.37m (57-00).
In the 4x100m relay, the Buckeyes placed fourth in 45.45 to qualify for Saturday’s finals. Manning, Christienne Linton, McNary and Chesna Sykes made up the team. Illinois finished in first with a time of 44.79. Ohio State also entered a team in the 4x200m relay where Linton, Nyjah Cousar, Sykes and Shaniqua McGinnis combined for a fifth-place finish in 1:37.28. Baylor placed first in 1:33.08.
