RELATED INFO

COLUMBUS, Ohio — This year’s senior class has yet to leave the Big Ten Championships without at least a share of the conference title, bringing home the hardware in back-to-back-to-back seasons (2014-16). Only one team in Big Ten history has recorded four consecutive B1G championships, the 2002-05 Buckeyes. This year’s bunch looks to become the second at TPC River’s Bend in Cincinnati starting Friday (Apr. 21) and running through Sunday (Apr. 23).

All fourteen conference schools will compete in the 54-hole event to determine which institution earns the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.

BIG TEN’S BEST
Ohio State has captured a conference-best 14 Big Ten titles since 1983 with 10 coming under the direction of head coach Therese Hession. Ten Buckeyes have earned individual championships over the years, also the highest mark among all B1G programs (tied with Indiana).

All three members of the 2017 OSU senior class — Zoe-Beth Brake, Katja Pogacar and Jessica Porvasnik — have been in the lineup for the three conference crowns in a row. Each has found individual success as well on the B1G stage:

Zoe-Beth Brake | 2nd place in 2014
Katja Pogacar | 2nd place in 2015 and 2016
Jessica Porvasnik | has finished no worse than 7th place, including an individual championship in 2014

A run of three straight B1G titles has only occurred four times in conference history, three of which were accomplished by the Buckeyes (1983-85, 2002-05, 2014-16) and the other by Purdue (2008-10). Hession’s 10 Big Ten crowns overall are the most all-time, followed by Sam Carmichael’s seven championships (Indiana; 1982-2004).

*The Buckeyes were victorious at four straight conference tournaments from 1978-81 as well, but the Big Ten office doesn’t officially recognize titles prior to 1982.
