COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State second varsity eight has been named Big Ten Boat of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. The weekly award marks the second of the season for the Buckeyes as the first varsity eight earned Big Ten Co-Boat of the Week honors April 9.
The crew of Daphne Socha, Chloe Meyer, Silvia De Matteis, Stephanie Johnson, Nicole Becks, Lauren Eckles, Samantha Fowle, Catherine Shields and coxswain Victoria Lazur claimed first place over No. 13 Michigan, Michigan State and Indiana at the Big Ten Duals Saturday, defeating Michigan by 8.2 seconds, Michigan State by 8.5 seconds and Indiana by 16 seconds.
The second varsity eight has won four consecutive races this season and holds a 13-0 record in regular season competition dating back to March 24, 2012.
Ohio State travels to Clemson, S.C., to compete against defending national champion No. 3 Virginia, No. 13 Michigan and No. 14 Clemson at the Clemson Invitational at Lake Hartwell April 20-21.
