COLUMBUS, Ohio – Rachel Rohanna of the Ohio State women’s golf team sits in sixth following the second round of the first stage of the 2012 LPGA Qualifying Tournament Wednesday. The Waynesburg, Pa., product shot a 3-over 75 on LPGA International’s Champions Course and has a two-day total of 4-under 140.
Rohanna, a senior on the Ohio State squad, led the field after the first round of play, carding a 7-under 65 on LPGA International’s Legends Course Tuesday.
Classmates Amy Meier and Susana Benavides also competed on the second day of the tournament, but their finishes weren’t enough to make the cut. Meier was one stroke off the cut, having a 5-over 149 over two rounds. Benavides finished her run at the tournament with a 13-over 157.
The top-60 and ties on Friday will move on to the second stage of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament, to be held Oct. 9-12, at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Fla. The top 70 and ties from Stage II will advance into the final Qualifying Tournament Stage III.
The final Stage III Q-school will be contested over 90 holes Nov. 28 through Dec. 2, on both the Champions and Legends courses at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. Top finishers in the final stage will earn 2013 LPGA membership (total number of cards TBD) and all others who make the cut will receive Symetra Tour status.
