LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Ohio State softball team won its fifth-consecutive game by defeating Loyola (Ill.), 3-1, Friday morning at Ulmer Stadium in the Courtyard by Marriott Airport Cardinal Tournament. The Buckeyes improve to 16-3 on the season, while the Ramblers dip to 8-5 overall.

Ohio State opened scoring in the bottom of the first inning, when Sam Marder doubled home Dee Dee Hillman, who reached on the first of five walks on the day. Loyola went on to tie the game in the top half of the third after Bridget Lally scored from third on a sac hit by Stephanie Cihlar.

The Ramblers were held scoreless through the final four innings as the Buckeyes put two runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth to take over the game. With runners on first and second, Alicia Herron singled to left field, scoring Katie Simonton as a pinch runner for Tory Haddad. Herron would later cross home on a wild pitch by Loyola’s Amy Solava.

Lindsay Bodeker led Ohio State in the circle, striking out eight and allowing one run in her fourth complete game of the season. The earned run for the Buckeyes is the first since Feb. 22 against UC Santa Barbara. They had tallied five shutouts in the previous six games.

The Buckeyes take the field at approximately 2 p.m. Friday against UIC. The Flames are 4-14 this season.
