COLUMBUS. Ohio – With temperatures in the 20’s and snow in the forecast, softball season is not the first thing to come to mind for most people. For the players, coaches and hard-working construction workers, however, completing the new Buckeye Field in time for the March 21 home-opener is a top concern.

As of the first week of December, the indoor batting cages are nearly complete with the recent addition of new turf, pitching mounds and batter’s boxes. The plumbing and ventilation systems are being installed throughout the dugouts and locker rooms and framing is up for the fully-enclosed press box and ticket booth. With roughly three and a half months to go, the $5.9 million worth of renovations are moving quickly.
