Sanford in Action at Oracle ITA Masters

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Anna Sanford, a senior on the Ohio State women’s tennis team, competed at the Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu, Calif.

On the first day of competition, Sanford, ranked 33rd and the No. 14 seed, defeated No. 97 Claudia Herrero Garcia of Nevada, 6-2, 6-1, in the first round of the 32-player singles draw.

In round two, Sanford fell to No. 3 seed and No. 54-ranked Samantha Harris of Duke, 6-4, 7-5. 

Sanford paired with Minnesota’s Matic Spec in the mixed doubles tournament. The tandem posted a 6-4 win over Marianna Petrei of Idaho and Tim Handel of Northern Arizona in the first round. In the Round of 16, Sanford and Spec fell in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (2), to Duke’s Harris and Johannes Schretter of Baylor.
