COLUMBUS, Ohio Sammy Edwards, a senior on the No. 13 Ohio State women’s soccer team, has been named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Thursday. The award is the third of Edwards’ career and her second this season after earning it Oct. 3.

The Dublin, Ohio, native scored both goals in the Buckeyes’ 2-1 win over Indiana Wednesday night, clinching the first outright Big Ten championship in program history. Both of the goals came in the first seven minutes, the first off a cross from Eleanor Gabriel, and the second on a diving header off a long free kick from Nikki Walts.

Edwards, who leads the Buckeyes and ranks third in the Big Ten with nine goals and 25 points on the season, joined Nichelle Prince and Lara Dickenmann in a tie for eighth on the Ohio State career goals list with 27. The forward also moved into 10th on the Buckeyes’ career points list with 63.

The top-seeded Buckeyes take on eighth-seeded Iowa in a Big Ten quarterfinal at 4 p.m. Sunday at Bert L. & Iris S. Wolstein Field at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
