COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sammy Edwards and Devon Kerr, members of the No. 15 Ohio State women’s soccer team, have garnered Big Ten weekly awards after the Buckeyes’ 1-0 win over No. 7 Penn State, the conference office announced Tuesday. Edwards was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week while Kerr earned Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week laurels.
The award is the second such award for Edwards after picking one up Oct. 11, 2016, while Kerr has her second Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor, both coming in the last two weeks.
Edwards, a senior from Dublin, Ohio, scored the game-winner in the 65th minute while Kerr made three saves en route to her third-consecutive shutout and sixth of the season. Edwards is tied for third in the conference with six goals and fourth with 17 points while Kerr ranks third in the conference with a 0.53 goals-against average and tied for second with six shutouts. Kerr, from Barrie, Ontario, also is tied for 18th nationally with six clean sheets.
Ohio State, 9-2-1 overall and second in the Big Ten with a 4-1-0 record, hosts Michigan State and Michigan this weekend in Columbus. The Buckeyes host the Spartans at 5 p.m. Friday before a noon match Sunday against the Wolverines.
