GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The Ohio State women’s rowing team had four team members selected to the all-Central Region team Wednesday night at the 2001NCAA Women’s Rowing Championship Banquet, held at the Chattahoochee Country Club in Gainesville, Ga., host-city of the championships.

Maxi Meissner (So., Schoenow, Germany) and Conny Kirsch (Jr., Potsdam, Germany) were first-team all-region selections. Sasha Kildelund (Fr., Nyborg, Denmark) and Susi Wesenburg (Fr., Rostock, Germany) were honored as members of the second team.

Meissner moved from the seven-seat to the stroke position prior to the Big Ten Championships.

“When we moved Maxi to the stroke position, the performance of the first varsity improved dramatically,” Andy Teitelbaum, OSU head coach, said. “She’s been vital to our success this season.”

Kirsch, who positions the five-seat in the first varsity eight boat, was honored as an all-region selection for the third-consecutive year.

“It is quite an accomplishment to be named all-region three straight years,” Teitelbaum said. “Conny is the strongest rower we have in the program. She was the first world-class rower we had come here and she has remained a top performer as the quality of our program has escalated.”

Kildelund and Wesenburg are both freshman, but have made an immediate impact in the first boat. Kildelund holds the six-spot and Wesenburg is rows at the seven-position.

Sasha and Suzi have been a great addition for us,” Teitelbaum said. “Despite this being their first year at the collegiate level, they provided skill and leadership. We’re excited to have them be recognized.

The Buckeyes will begin competition at the championships Thursday morning. The I Eights heat begins at 8 a.m.
