COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State rowing team clinched a first place victory in the varsity eight and pair competitions as it finished the fall season Sunday at the Rivanna Romp in Charlottesville, Va. The varsity first eight boat finished first out of 17 crews, earning its third-consecutive Rivanna Romp varsity eight title. The Buckeye first varsity pair boat finished first out of 18 crews, while the varsity four took third place.

The Ohio State varsity eight boats all finished under 14 minutes. The OSU first 8 finished first at 13:07.6, the OSU second varsity 8 took seventh place with a 13:34.2 finish and the OSU third varsity 8 boat came in closely behind, finishing ninth at 13:59.7.

In the varsity four competition, Virginia took first at 14:56.3 and Tennessee came in second at 15:08.3. The OSU first varsity 4 finished third at 15:17.4, which was the first Buckeye boat to cross the finish line. The OSU second varsity 4 finished ninth at 15:50.7, while the OSU third varsity 4 finished 15th at 16:19.3.

The Buckeye first varsity pair finished first at 16:09.1, 18.4 seconds ahead of Duke, who ended the race second. The OSU second varsity pair took 16th at 17:44.0 and the OSU third varsity pair finished 17th at 18:08.7

“We are very pleased with our performance at the regatta,” said Ohio State head coach, Andy Teitelbaum . “We are always happy when we have the opportunity to race against great competition and come out on top. It was a great end to the fall season and we hope to keep the momentum going into the winter.”

The Rivanna Romp, held at the Rivanna Reservoir, included Tennessee, Virginia, Buffalo, Duke, Cincinnati and Ohio State.

The Buckeyes are taking the winter off and will begin regular season action March 27 against Princeton and Brown in Princeton, N.J.
