COLUMBUS, Ohio The No. 12 Ohio State First Varsity Eight has been named the Big Ten Conference Boat of the Week for the second consecutive week after posting a perfect 3-0 record last Saturday, the league announced Tuesday.
In Ohio State’s home opener, the First Varsity Eight faced No. 8 Brown and Notre Dame in the morning session. The Buckeyes crossed the line with a season-best time of 6:22.60, followed by Brown (6:28.67) and Notre Dame (6:31.54). During the afternoon session, Ohio State claimed a victory over Big Ten foe Indiana with a time of 6:22.90. Ohio State crossed the line just .30 seconds slower than its morning run, while Indiana came across at 6:40.63.
The First Varsity Eight crew included Charlott Goldstein, Peta-Leigh Dakyns, Zuzanna Trzcinska, Susanne Herbrand, Katie Flarida, Claudia Herpertz, Ulrike Denker, Claudia Wurzel and coxswain Erika Benford.
The honor for the First Varsity Eight is its second this season and the first back-to-back weekly conference accolades since March 26 and April 2, 2007.
