COLUMBUS, Ohio Susanne Herbrand and Peta-Leigh Dakyns, seniors on the Ohio State rowing team, were named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Central Region team the CRCA announced Saturday. Herbrand was a first-team selection and Dakyns earned second-team honors.
Herbrand, a native of Magdeburg, Germany, and Dakyns, who hails from Johannesburg, South Africa, are now eligible for All-America honors, which will be awarded following the NCAA championships May 29-31 in Cherry Hill, N.J. Ohio State will be making its 10th-consecutive and 11th overall appearance in the NCAA championships at Cooper River Park.
Members of the First Varsity Eight, Herbrand and Dakyns were evaluated on the strength of the Buckeyes’ overall regional finish (third), coaches’ recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Selected student-athletes also must have competed in their teams’ varsity boat in 75 percent of races.
The regional honors complements Herbrand and Dakyns’ All-Big Ten selections following Ohio State’s third-place finish in the conference championships May 2 at Griggs Reservoir. Herbrand was a first-team All-Big Ten selection and Dakyns was a second-team recipient.
