Sean Romeo, a redshirt senior goalie on the Ohio State men’s hockey team, is on the watch list for the 2019 Mike Richter Award. The award annually honors the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA Division I men’s hockey. The winner of the sixth annual award will be announced at the 2019 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four in Buffalo, N.Y.
Romeo was a semifinalist for the 2018 award, the first semifinalist in program history. In his first year playing for the Buckeyes, Romeo earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors. He was the NCAA Midwest Regional Most Outstanding Player and named to the all-regional team after backstopping the Buckeyes to the Frozen Four. The NCAA Elite 90 Award winner for the highest grade-point average among student-athletes at the 2018 Frozen Four, he is a two-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and an Academic All-Big Ten choice.
Last year, Romeo ranked in the Top 12 in the NCAA with a 2.06 goals-against average and .927 save percentage, ranking third in program history for a single season in both categories. His 22 wins tied for the second most for a goalie in a single campaign.
