Senior linebacker answered fans’ questions online Thursday

COLUMBUS, Ohio Senior linebacker Marcus Freeman held a live online chat on OhioStateBuckeyes.com Thursday to answer fans’ questions. Read what Marcus had to say below.

Freeman will be in his third year starting a linebacker in 2008. Last season, the Huber Heights, Ohio, native registered 109 tackles, the second most for a Buckeye, with 66 of them recorded as solo hits.

Carey:Cleveland, Ohio:

What does the defense have in store for its opponents this season with you, James and Malcolm coming back for a fourth season?

Marcus::

Our goal is to be the best defense in the nation and if each member of this defense lives up to expectations, we can accomplish this goal.

Tamara:Dallas, Texas:

If you could travel any where in the world, where would you go and why?

Marcus::

To South Korea because that is where my mother is from and I would love to see my heritage.

Ray:New York:

What’s your favorite pregame meal?

Marcus::

Since we eat the same thing before every game, it has to be lasagna with a piece of steak and chicken.

Ray:New York:

Did you play any other sports in high school?

Marcus::

I played basketball, track and baseball. I was best at football and it’s the one I had a passion for so that’s why I chose to play football in college.

Troy:Cincinnati:

Who should we keep an eye out for in 2008 to have a good season? Who’s looking good in spring practice?

Marcus::

Lawrence Wilson is back and healthy, Curtis Terry is also looking very productive, along with Ross Homan and Austin Spitler.

Frank:Pittsburgh, Pa.:

Did you look up to any NFL stars as a young athlete? If so, who?

Marcus::

All the great linebackers that played in the NFL, including Ray Lewis, Brian Urlacher and DerrekBrooks.

Monica:Lima, Ohio:

Do you come from a family of athletes?

Marcus::

My mother was a track runner in Korea. My father played basketball in the military and my brother was a Division III All-American, playing football at Wittenberg.

Nick:Chicago, Ill.:

Do you stay in touch with the guys already in the NFL? What type of advice do they give you?

Marcus::

We talk to them as much as they can fit into their busy schedules. They mostly tell us to enjoy college as much as we can because when we get to the NFL it is all business.

Andrew:Lexington, Ohio:

What would your American Gladiator name be?

Marcus::

King Freeman the Great. Something like that …

Hanna:New York:

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Marcus::

Watch TV and play Rockband and Halo on Xbox.

Jamie Fisher:Beavercreek:

Hey Marcus, hope all is good with the knee! Your cousin Ty said I might be able to have you and friends sign a Buckeyes helmet. Is there a place or time before or after the Spring Game to get autographs? GO Bucks!!

Marcus::

We are not allowed to give autographs after the Spring Game but we’ll try to find another time.

John:Dublin:

Do you feel that this year’s team has the potential to be better than the last two seasons teams? Do you feel the 2008 Ohio State Buckeyes have a shot at another National Championship game?

Marcus::

Coming into the season, our ultimate goal is to be national champions. Like previous years, that is always a goal when you come to OhioState. Unlike the last two years, when we didn’t finish the way we would have liked, we hope this year will be different.

Nic :Charlotte, NC:

Are the Buckeyes counting down the days until the season begins?

Marcus::

We are always counting down the minutes until we play the next game and the team up north.

Sheldon:Columbus:

Do your sights on the NFL have a lot to do with what you plan to put into this season?

Marcus::

The NFL is in the back of my mind right now. My main focus is what I do here at OhioState right now.

DonaldGale:Columbus, Ohio:

How important will it be for OhioState to finally beat an SEC team in a major bowl game?

Marcus::

To beat any team in a bowl game would be a huge accomplishment, let alone an SEC team. Our goal is to win the national championship no matter what conference the opponent is from.

Nic:Charlotte, NC:

What do you and the team have to say about all the people out there who think that we can’t stack up to the SEC?

Marcus::

With the way we have performed the past two years I would say that is a good argument. But we know as a team, we can play with any opponent in the nation.

John:Columbus:

Did you know that there is only 224 days until the Buckeyes play Michigan? Is the team, you included, as PUMPED as the fans are?

Marcus::

We have a countdown clock that we see everyday. We are always excited for the great matchup against the team up north.

Donald:Columbus:

In your opinion who is the best linebacker to have EVER played the game?

Marcus::

Ray Lewis because of his skill and passion for the game.

Donald:Columbus:

How difficult is it to balance classroom work with football?

Marcus::

It’s a huge task but that’s what Coach Tressel does the first minute we get here. He teaches us time management.

Sheldon:Columbus:

That is awesome that you have your focus on OSU and that is what made it so special that your group came back for your senior season and that is what OSU football is all about.

Marcus::

Thanks for all the support!

Donald:Columbus:

If you could pick the NFL team you play for … which one would it be?

Marcus::

Cincinnati Bengals because it is close from home and I like their colors.

Sheldon:Columbus:

Do you feel that it is important for you seniors to make a statement this year to show future underclassmen what it means to stay all four years?

Marcus::

More important than showing the underclassmen, we want to play for ourselves, our coaches and our fans and hopefully the younger players will follow in our footsteps.

Nic :Charlotte, NC:

Can you leave me a couple of tickets at will call for a game next season – after all I skipped my lunch break to catch this chat? … Just kidding, what’s it like in the tunnel before you run out on the field on Saturday?

Marcus::

I wish I could. It’s an adrenaline rush no matter who the opponent is or the situation. It gives you butterflies.

Tim:Bowling Green:

What game on your schedule are you looking forward to most this upcoming year?

Marcus::

USC and Michigan.

Jim:Mansfield:

Are you going to be playing in the spring game and how have injuries to so many players this spring affected the team? Thanks and GO BUCKS!!!

Marcus::

Yes, I plan on playing in the spring game. Injuries have been limited and we are expecting a competitive Spring Game.
