COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s hockey junior center R.J. Umberger (Pittsburgh, Pa.) has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 8, the league announced Monday. Umberger had seven points (three goals, four assists) in OSU’s two-game sweep of Miami.

Umberger tied his career high with four points in the Buckeyes’ 4-0 win in the series opener against the RedHawks, posting two goals, including the gamewinner, and two assists. In the Buckeyes’ 5-3 win Saturday, Umberger posted a goal and two assists and was named the Perani Cup First Star of the Game. He helped the Buckeyes go 5-for-16 (31.25 percent) on the power play over the weekend, recording a point on four of OSU’s five power-play tallies.

Umberger leads the Buckeyes with 19 points and nine goals in 15 games this season. He is just five points away from the 100th of his Buckeye career with 41-54-95 totals in 84 games.

The Buckeyes (10-4-1, 7-2-1 CCHA) complete the first half of their season with a two-game series against CCHA-foe Nebraska-Omaha (7-7-2, 5-5-0 CCHA) this weekend. The teams will face off at 7:05 p.m. Friday and at 8:05 p.m. Saturday in Value City Arena.
