%^$%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio-Purdue, the No. 5 seed in the 2002 Big Ten Men’s Tennis Tournament, defeated No. 4-seed Northwestern, 4-2, Friday at the Stickney Tennis Center. Purdue’s Troy Havens clinched the match for the Boilermakers defeating Chuck Perrin, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, at the No. 6 singles position.%^$

%^$Purdue earned the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions. Scott Mayer and Dan Swan defeated Jackie Jenkins and Bennett, 8-4. The Boilermakers’ Laith Al-Agba and Carl McCafferty defeated Tommy Hanus and Josh Axler, 8-3.%^$

%^$Northwestern tried to come back in singles action, but the Wildcats could not hold off the Boilermakers. Purdue’s Scott Mayer downed Northwestern’s Tommy Hanus, 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 1 position. Purdue’s Andrew Wakefield defeated Joost Hol, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 4 spot.%^$

%^$The Boilermakers advance to face No. 1 Illinois at 10 a.m. Saturday in semifinal action at Stickney Tennis Center. Illinois and Purdue play at noon if the match is forced indoors because of weather.%^$
