COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two more major college football award watch lists were announced today — the John Mackey Award for best tight end and the Rimington Trophy, which goes to the outstanding center — and two more Buckeyes have made those lists and are being watched.
Senior tight end Marcus Baugh is on the John Mackey Award watch list. The fifth-year senior from Riverside, Calif., has started 17 games over the past two seasons, including all 13 last year. He enters the season with 27 career receptions for 303 yards and three touchdowns. He can climb into Ohio State’s all-time Top 10 for receptions by a tight end with a season similar to what he produced in 2016 when he caught 24 passes for 269 yards and earned honorable mention all-Big Ten Conference accolades.
Senior center Billy Price is one of the top candidates for the Rimington Award, won last year by his teammate and now a Minnesota Viking, Pat Elflein. Price, from Austintown, Ohio, is listed as the No. 1 center prospect in the nation by College Football News and he is a returning first-team All-American and all-Big Ten Conference honoree. He has started every game over the past three seasons — 41 in all — and is on pace to break Luke Fickell’s school record for starts and consecutive starts at 50, set between 1993-96. Price graduated this spring with his degree in business administration with a specialization in operations management.
