COLUMBUS, Ohio –

After a week of training, the Ohio State men’s soccer faces its first test of the 2011 season as it hosts Wright State for a 7 p.m. exhibition match Wednesday in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Buckeyes, who return eight starters from their 2010 NCAA Third Round team, also will take on Denver during the preseason, facing the Pioneers at 1 p.m. Sunday in Fort Wayne, Ind., as part of the National Soccer Festival.

A few notes:

  • Junior goalkeeper Matt Lampson was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List this week. Read the full release here.
  • Lampson and David Tiemstra each were named to the College Soccer News Preseason All-America Team. Tiemstra, a senior defender, earned a spot on the second team, while Lampson was a third-team selection. Full teams are here.
  • The official men’s soccer Facebook page recently passed 1,000 followers, while the twitter feed reached 400 followers. Follow both for extra inside information from the Buckeyes.

Ohio State has eight home games scheduled for the regular-season, including a pair in the Bert & Iris Wolstein Classic Sept. 2 and 4 and a nationally-televised tilt with Big Ten foe Michigan Sept. 25. Admission to all regular-season home games at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium is free.
