COLUMBUS, Ohio – Cammi Prantl, a senior outfielder/catcher of the Ohio State softball team, has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference announced today.
Prantl swung a red hot at for the Buckeyes last weekend at the Spartan Classic, going 11-for-14 (.786) with nine RBI, eight runs scored, three doubles and two home runs. All that added up to four Ohio State wins, as the Buckeyes defeated Furman, Morehead State and Virginia Tech twice.
In a 15-3 victory over Furman, Prantl went four-for-four with a home run, two doubles and three RBI. She followed that up the next day against Morehead State by collecting two more hits and three RBI. In the nightcap against Virginia Tech, she hit a solo home run in her first at-bat, doubled in her second and was intentionally walked in her third. Prantl scored what proved to be the game-winning run thanks to a double off the bat of Taylor White.
In addition to hitting .786, Prantl had a slugging percentage of 1.429 and on-base of .824. On the season, she has a .395 average with a team-leading 11 RBI, three doubles and nine runs scored.
The Buckeyes (9-4) has this coming weekend off before continuing non-conference play March 11-13 at the Louisville Slugger Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. on the campus of Arizona State.
