Ohio State Quotes
Jim Stone, Ohio State head coach
On the match
“First of all, I have to say we beat a good team tonight. Before this match even started we watched a lot of video and we knew they had a solid offense, which they proved tonight. They have a good setter, so we beat a good team. We played well, hit 36 percent and when you are hitting 36 percent you’re going to win. We did a good job passing the ball as a team. Marisa (Main) did a good job moving the ball around. We played well as a team. I told the team afterwards this was the best defensive game we have played all year and I am really pleased.”

On freshman outside hitter, Ami Stevens
“Well, I am really pleased with her. She struggled last night, but she came back tonight. It was obvious they were going after her, and for a freshman to handle that I am really pleased.”

Stacey Gordon, Ohio State senior outside hitter
On the match
“We were all confident individually, which helped us as a team. We won some long rallies which gave us momentum. Overall, we were very consistent.”

On when her hits were blocked
“I get fired up when my hits are blocked. It makes me think of different angles to use and how to put the ball down.”

Marisa Main, Ohio State sophomore setter
On setting for Stacey Gordon
“It is fun because when my sets aren’t perfect, which sometimes they aren’t, she can still do something with them. So that’s good. And to know when we go one on one it’s a kill, that’s exciting.” Dayton Quotes
Geoff Carlston, Ohio head coach
On the match
“I am extremely proud of my team, especially the seniors, and what they have accomplished as a group. But give Ohio State credit, they did things that we couldn’t stop and they forced us to get out of our game plan. Stacey Gordon was very impressive and we knew she would be. We wish them the best of luck in the next round. We would have liked to win but we’re happy because our seniors have left a bit of a legacy that will not be forgotten.”

On getting out of game plan
“Stacey (Gordon) single-handedly got us out of our game plan. As a team we didn’t pass very well and they forced us outside more than we would have liked. We had a tough time defending their slides and middle attacks. I give credit to their player Ami Stevens. We went after her and she did very well. Overall, they played better defense than we did.”

Briana Adamovsky, Ohio senior setter
On Stacey Gordon
“She’s awesome. I have played against her a couple times so I knew what to expect. She’s a great leader and did things well tonight. We couldn’t stop her. That’s her game. She hit lines, hit crosses, just hit everything. We tried to get a block on her but she was just too good.”
