Recap |  Box Score |  Notes

Thad Matta, Ohio State head coach
Opening statement
“We knew we wanted to come out and try to force turnovers. Once the turnovers came about we had a little bit more confidence.”

On the defensive effort
“Winning teams really play good defense and that is something we have stressed in practice over that last couple weeks.”

On the environment
“That was a great environment today. In all my years of coaching that is one of the best home crowds I have ever coached in front of, and when you have an atmosphere like the one we had today the players really feed off of that excitement.”

J.J. Sullinger, junior guard
On the win
“This was a real big win for us. We’re above .500 in the Big Ten for the first time in a while, we got this win at home, and it was against Michigan. But we can’t celebrate for too long because we’ve got a big match-up on Wednesday. But we’re happy; we did exactly what we needed to do.”

On the environment
“It was exciting. I never imagined it being like that. It was packed, everyone was standing up and cheering. We fed off that. It made us feel real good.”

Tony Stockman, senior guard
On the start
“Coach talked a lot about starting fast and not letting them get any confidence early. We played hard and really didn’t let up.”

Je’Kel Foster, junior guard
On the game plan
“Our game plan always starts on the defensive end. The way we played early really set the tone for the rest of the game. I’m really not surprised by the amount of turnovers we forced because that’s how we’ve been playing in practice all week. Today, we got in our stance and really helped each other out on the defensive end.” Tommy Amaker, Michigan head coach
On turnovers
“I wish I had an answer to our problems, and if I did then we would have done better. We had 18 turnovers at the half and 29 for game, which is terrible considering they weren’t a pressing team. It’s very disheartening as a coach to see your team play like that because it’s my responsibility to get us ready to play. We’re not a very good team right now and we need to find things to build on. We’ve had a combination of lineups but for some reason we’re just very shaky with the ball.”

On team struggles
“Mentally, we’re just a beaten team right now and we’re starting to see a snowball effect. We had six turnovers in the first four minutes of the game which sucked the life out of our kids. We need to get something going to build on. I know my kids our trying hard, even though I’m not happy with the results. Things just aren’t going our way but we need to press on.”

On Ohio State
“They set the pace early and never let up. Their guards produced from the beginning and could not miss. To us, it seemed like we did everything wrong and they did everything right. They are a very competitive team. You can’t let Ohio State get on top early or else it is going to be a long day, like today.”
