– California leads the all-time series against Ohio State, 4-3. These two teams last met in 2003 when the Buckeyes defeated Cal, then the defending national champion, 1-0, at the Cal State-Fullerton/Worth Invitational.

– California finished 49-20 last season and advanced to the NCAA tournament. All seven teams that Ohio State has played so far this season qualified for the NCAA tournament in 2003. The Buckeyes’ next opponent, Florida Atlantic, also was an NCAA tournament participant last season.

– The United States Olympic Team is also in Columbus, Ga., this weekend playing a five-game schedule against NCAA teams. Ohio State watched the U.S. squad play Michigan at 6 p.m. Friday prior to the Buckeyes’ 7:30 p.m. contest vs. California.

– A pair of California players that played against Ohio State Friday, pitcher Kelly Anderson and third baseman Vicki Galindo, were named to the preseason watch list for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award. Anderson was 23-12 last season with a 1.05 ERA.
