Recap| Box Score

Ohio State Head Coach Jim Stone
Comment on game:
“Genuinely it is nice to move past the first round. We will have to play well tomorrow. We did some things well tonight, but we played a different kind of team tonight than we will versus Louisville tomorrow. Louisville pretty physical around the net and will be quite a challenge.”

On the improved play of freshman Stephanie Higgins:
“Throughout the year Stephanie has worked hard and really improved her game. Her play has gotten better and better as the season has progressed. She proved that tonight with her performance in the win.”

Ohio State Outside Hitter Stacey Gordon
“To win tomorrow we need to focus more on our serving and improve upon that. Defensively we executed well and we finished most of the long rallies. We played a complete game and that was the key to our victory.”

Ohio State Setter Katie Virtue
On the significance of winning the match in three sets:
“It is very important that we had the opportunity to win this match in three games and save our legs for a big game with Louisville tomorrow.”

Robert Morris Head Coach Tim Horsmon
Comment on game:
“This is the second year in a row we have participated in the tournament and played a great team. I would like to take another step as a program and earn a better seeding in the future so we do not have to face a Top 15 team in the first round again in the future.”

On the future of the RMU program
“We are hoping that our young players can build upon what our seniors have accomplished over that last two to three seasons and carry on this success into the future.” Robert Morris Sophomore Megan Bell
On the experience of playing in the NCAA Tournament:
“Ohio State is a really good team. I was nervous for this big game, but in the end I had a lot of fun. This is just a great experience to play at this level.”

Robert Morris Freshman Rachel Leitch
On RMU’s performance in big games:
“As a team we played with Ohio State tonight. We know when to step up our play when we play bigger schools. As a team we usually rise to the occasion. Tonight did as well, but just fell short against a very strong Ohio State team.”

Louisville Cardinals Head Coach Leonid Yelin
Comment on game:
” We are very pleased to have advanced through the first round. We kept within our overall game plan very well tonight. We planned to start a little stronger, but we made a couple of runs at the 10-point mark of each game. The players knew when to take charge and they did.”

On the play of Louisville outside hitter Bing Sun:
“Bing stepped up well as a team leader tonight and I hope she continues to through the rest of the tournament. We play very well when she steps up.”

Louisville Outside Hitter Bing Sun
On her team’s winning performance:
“The whole team wanted to do our best and set each other up, score points at the right time and just win tonight. This is a very good win for us.”

Louisville Setter Sarah Drury
On why the Cardinals failed to get off to a fast start:
“I think jitters may have played a part in us not starting off that well. But everyone did their job after the match got going and we settled down and the job done.”

Ball State Cardinals Head Coach Randy Litchfield
Comment on game:
“We Just started each game with nothing going our way. It felt like we went to the midpoint of each match in a deficit and would close in to make it a close game at the 20-point mark. A team can spend a lot of energy getting to that point in rally scoring and we could not end the games on top.”

On the disappointing loss:
“I am one who is never short on confidence and I was not prepared to lose this game. It is a hard way to end such a great season for our program. We played through a hard fought conference tournament last week and that may have been too much to bounce back from.”

Ball State Outside Attacker Katie Butts
On her performance:
“It took some time getting used to their tempo and getting myself in the right spots on defense. We should have come out more intense and taken over the game in the first five points of the game. They are a very good blocking team. They just simply made the plays and we did not.”

Ball State Setter Stacy Baldwin
On the disappointing loss:
“I had a lot of setting errors. There were a few times I needed to give the perfect set and I just did not do it. This was a very hard game to lose.”

Ball State Middle Attacker Kristin Westof
On Louisville’s athletic ability:
“They hit higher than any team we have faced all season and we just did not adjust very well. They are a great team, but this was a very frustrating game.”
