Today marked the second overtime game Ohio State has competedin this season and the fourth overall. The last was athree-overtime contest vs. North Carolina State Sept. 13 in OhioStadium, which OSU won, 44-38.

Ohio State stays perfect in overtime at 4-0. Today’s game marked the second overtime contest in Ohio Stadium history. The Buckeyes won their first two overtime games last year, beating Illinois in single overtime, 23-16, and Miami, 31-24, in double overtime.

Jim Tressel is now 8-1 all-time in overtime games. He is 4-0 atOhio State. Ohio State recorded its second-consecutive undefeatedrecord at home. It is the 30th time an Ohio State team was perfectin Columbus all season and the first time since 1983-84 they havehad back-to-back undefeated seasons at home. Ohio State’s 10-1record marked the 14th time a Buckeyes squad won 10 or more gamesin a single season. With the win today (16-13), Ohio State has won11 of the last 12 games when the difference is seven points orless.

Before the Buckeyes fell at Wisconsin, 17-10, earlier this season, the squad had won nine-consecutive games when the score was determined by seven points or less.

The last time an Ohio State team won without scoring anoffensive touchdown was against Iowa this season (19-10; Oct. 18).When Purdue’s Jerod Void scored an 11-yard rushing touchdown in thefourth quarter, it marked the fifth rushing touchdown Ohio Statehas allowed all season. Thewin also marks Ohio State’s eighth-straight win at home vs. Big Tenopponents. The Buckeyes last dropped a contest at home Nov. 17,2001, a 34-22 loss to eventual Big Ten champion Illinois.

Overall this season, Ohio State has extended its current winning streak to five games.

The meeting Saturday between Ohio State and Purdue was the 48thin the series. With the win, the Buckeyes now hold a 35-11-2advantage in the series, including a 24-5-2 mark at Ohio Stadium.The last time Purdue beat Ohio State was 2000. A 31-26 win in 1988was the last time the Boilermaker captured a victory in OhioStadium. Saturday’s meeting counts as the seventh between OhioState and Purdue when each is ranked among the Top 25. When bothsquads are ranked in the Top 10, Ohio State has a 3-1 edge in theseries. The last time both teams met and were ranked in the Top 10was in 1969 – a 42-14 Ohio State win.

Tonight marked the first time this season the Buckeyescommitted zero turnovers since Washington. It was the first timePurdue’s defense forced no turnovers all season.

Michael Jenkins’ 60-yard reception in the final minute in thefirst quarter was his longest of this season. Craig Krenzel’s passto Jenkins was the longest of his career. His previous long was a57-yard reception also to Jenkins in the Fiesta Bowl last season.

The 60-yard pass from Krenzel to Jenkins was the longest offensive play for Ohio State this season. The previous long was a 49-yard Krenzel pass to Drew Carter at Indiana.

Michael Jenkin’s 123 yards receiving was the second time thisseason he tallied 100 yards this season. The last time he receivedover 100 yards this season was a 124-yard effort against NorthCarolina State. It was the ninth time he had over 100 yardsreceiving in his career.

The last time an Ohio State receiver notched over 100 yards was Santonio Holmes, who had a 153-yard effort at Indiana.

With the win Saturday, Ohio State quarterback Craig Krenzelimproved to 23-2 as a starter.

Krenzel completed 15-29 pass attempts for 226 yards, marking the sixth time this season Krenzel has totaled 200 yards passing.

Krenzel, who also rushed for 39 yards on 14 carries, totaled 265 yards of offense moved him to 4,647 for his career, which keeps him at 10th place in the all-time career total offense charts.

Freshman wide receiver Santonio Holmes/m-footbl/mtt/holmes_santonio00.html> caught six passes todayfor 57 yards. Since taking over at flanker for the injured DrewCarter at Indiana, Holmes has 339 yards on 22 receptions. With his60-yard catch at the end of the first quarter, Ohio State split endMichael Jenkins /m-footbl/mtt/jenkins_michael00.html> – sixreceptions, 123 yards – has now caught at least one pass in37-consecutive games.

Ohio State Defensive Team Notes

Purdue had 106 rushing yards. The Boilermakers averaged 159heading into Saturday’s contest. The Buckeyes have not allowed anopposing player to rush for 100 or more yards at home in 16consecutive games, dating back to San Diego State’s Larry Ned’s112-yard performance Oct. 20, 2001 at Ohio Stadium. Ohio Stateforced Purdue to turn the ball over on two occasions Saturday. TheBoilermakers had not committed a turnover in the last two games.

Mike Kudla’s defensive touchdown in the fourth quarter was thefirst touchdown of his career. It was his second career fumblerecovery.

The last time the Ohio State defense had a touchdown was when Will Allen scored against San Diego State in the first half.

Tim Anderson’s fumble recovery late in the fourth quartermarked the third of his career and the second this season. DustinFox had nine solo tackles and one assist vs. Purdue. Nine solos and10 total tackles is the most on the season by Fox. Will Smithrecorded a sack in the fourth quarter, which moved him to fourthplace (tied with Eric Kumerow) on the all-time list.

B.J. Sander punted the ball 10 times today. Seven of the 10attempts landed inside the 20. He averaged 41.3 yards today vs. theBoilermakers. He has downed a punt inside the opponent 20-yard line32 times this season. Nugent’s three field goals boosts his careertotal to 48. He is ranked third in the Ohio State charts forall-time field goals made. Former Buckeye Tim Williams stands insecond place with 49 career field goals.

With his one extra points in Saturday’s game, Nugent passed the 100 mark in career extra point conversions. Nugent has 102 total extra points.

With his 10 points in Saturday’s game, Nugent moved into ninth place on Ohio State’s all-time chart for points scored with 245.
