PALOS VERDES, Calif. — Playing amongst many of the nation’s top female collegiate golfers, Ohio State’s Jessica Porvasnik produced one of just four rounds of 68 or better in the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. Her final round 68 not only put her in the elite company, but also vaulted her 19 spots up the individual leaderboard into a share of 13th place overall for the 54-hole event.
Tournament medalist Monica Vaughn from Arizona State posted a 65 while Porvasnik matched two others for next best at 68. Porvasnik opened the Spring season by carding 75-74 before going low and capping off the west coast trip at 4-over (75-74-68). She excelled in Par 4 scoring, averaging 3.94 strokes on such holes for an aggregate Par 4 tally of 2-under — tied for the tournament best. Porvasnik also ranked inside the tourney’s top-10 with 35 total pars.
Porvasnik lifted the Buckeyes past Pepperdine on Tuesday, wrapping it up in 11th place at 57-over (909). Ohio State bested a pair of top-25 foes, including Big Ten counterpart and 23rd-ranked Michigan State (+71), and fell one slot shy of No. 9 Arizona in 10th place (+51).
Pogacar made an upward move in the last go-around as well, leaping eight positions into the upper half of the field and a piece of 36th place. She saved her best for last, etching a 73 onto her final scorecard after tallies of 74-79 to start the competition. Freshman Jaclyn Lee varied little throughout, registering rounds of 76-77-77 (+17) to tie for 45th.
Niki Schroeder (+24) and Rio Watanabe (+28) were separated by four strokes, tying for 70th and 76th, respectively. Schroeder, playing as an individual, closed out the week with a personal-low 75 in the final round. Zoe-Beth Brake also represented Ohio State out in The Golden State, putting forth scores of 82-79-85.
