OPELIKA, Ala. – Second-round play at the 2004 NCAA Championships was halted Wednesday because of lightning and darkness. The afternoon group, including the fifth-ranked Ohio State women’s golf team, was called in and competition was delayed for over an hour before rules officials stated play would be postponed until 7 a.m. this morning. The event is being held at the par 72 Grand National Lake Course (6,216 yards) in Opelika, Ala.

The Buckeyes were in fifth place at 10 over par when play was stopped, including 2 over thus far in the second round. OSU players have holes 14 through 18 remaining to play this morning before the third round begins.

UCLA, one of 12 groups who completed the second round in the morning, leads the field with a mark of 572 (-4) after shooting 283 in the second round.

Ohio State senior Allison Hanna (Portland, Ore./David Douglas) currently is tied for second place on the individual leaderboard. Hanna is three under par for the tournament, including even par on the holes she has completed in the second round.

The remainder of the second round will begin at 7 a.m. (8 a.m. Eastern Time) today and third-round action is scheduled for 8 a.m. (9 a.m. Eastern Time). The Buckeyes will tee off at approximately 12:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m. Eastern Time) on hole No. 10. Live scoring is available online at ohiostatebuckeyes.com and golfstat.com.
