COLUMBUS, Ohio The OhioState pistol team closed out the regular season by defeating Purdue, 4,377 to 3,788 Saturday afternoon at the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range in Converse Hall. The Buckeyes won all three events, outscoring the Boilermakers, 943 to 766 in free pistol, 2,035 to 1,905 in standard pistol and 1,399 to 1,117 in air pistol.

 

OhioState’s Krystin Schmid (5th-Sr., Granville, Ohio) finished first in all three events scoring a 264 in free, 544 in standard and 359 in air pistol. OSU’s Ryan Devine (So., Columbus, Ohio) was second in free pistol at 242 with Purdue’s Andrew Lowe taking third at 228. In standard pistol, Tyler Phillips (So., New Philadelphia) finished second at 526 with Rob Deppi (Jr. Brecksville, Ohio) third at 512. Deppi was second in air pistol with a 356 and Devine was third at 349.

 

The Buckeye victory came without Seth Berglee (Jr., Billings, Mont.) and Teresa Meyer (Sr., Dearborn, Mich.) who are at an Olympic qualifying match at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

 

The Buckeyes will now prepare for the National Collegiate Championships, March 10-14, at Ft. Benning, Ga.Ohio State will enter the competition ranked second nationally after their February sectional qualifier.
