COLUMBUS, Ohio – Seniors Tyler Pfister and Jake Withers were chosen by their teammates to serve as captains for the 2016-27 Ohio State men’s lacrosse squad, head coach Nick Myers announced Wednesday.

“Both Tyler and Jake are well respected by their teammates and we expect them to be outstanding captains,” Myers said. “As a staff we are excited to work toward our team goals alongside these two men who exemplify what it means to be a Buckeye.”

Pfister, a fifth-year senior from Columbus, Ohio, is in his second year as a captain for the Buckeyes. He has played in 35 games and has 11 goals, six assists and 17 points along with 15 groundballs. Pfister played in 10 games in 2016, starting two, and had two goals and an assist. He was honored with the 2016 Community Service award after volunteering a team-high 20 hours during the year. A four-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and two-time Academic All-Big Ten choice, he earned his communication degree at Spring Commencement and is now enrolled in graduate school for sport management.

Withers, from Peterborough, Ontario, was the 2016 Big Ten Specialist of the Year and First Team All-Big Ten after winning 60.7 percent of his faceoffs and picking up 110 groundballs. He led the Big Ten in both faceoff winning percentage and groundballs per game, ranking 12th and sixth in the NCAA, respectively. In his career Withers has taken 307 faceoffs, winning 339 (.558) and has 192 groundballs while playing in 43 games. The recipient of the team’s Bice Unsung Hero Award in 2016, Withers is a three-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection as an economics major.
